A message from Ann and Chris Abbey

Proprietors Ann and Chris Abbey took over the running of the shop in 2020. They, and their dedicated team, look forward to welcoming and serving you.

Where have you come from?

Not far! Four miles down the road from Melmerby where we have lived for eleven years.

What did you do before?

Ann’s career has been in education and has taught in primary schools for about 30 years (which she can’t quite believe!)

Chris has been a business analyst and project manager, but more recently, set up and run a business based around one of his hobbies – tabletop wargames. (Take a look at his website www.sally4th.co.uk for a greater understanding!)

What are your interests?

Chris used to be in the Army Reserves, where amongst many other things, he learned to sail yachts which remains a great passion, albeit not one which is fulfilled much at the moment. He also loves playing games, walking and spending time learning to play the guitar and piano.

Ann loves walking, sailing, travelling and gardening as well as spending time with friends and family. She has many other hobbies lined up, should she ever find the time to do them.

Who will be working in the shop?

You will mostly see Ann in the shop and PO as Chris will be still be running his business Sally4th. However, he will be working in the shop/PO on a Wednesday and helping out any other time he is needed. West Tanfield Village Shop is incredibly fortunate to have had Katie (shop/PO) and Neil (Shello – paper delivery) as part of the team for the last few years and we are delighted that they will be continuing in their roles, joined by John who will be doing the paper delivery round on Mondays and Tuesdays as well as working in the shop/PO.
